The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of SA and Co-Opera are collaborating to bring to Port Adelaide the celebrated production of The Mikado.
This historic comic opera is performed in two acts with music written by the famed Arthur Sullivan and script constructed by W. S. Gilbert.
This celebrated piece first opened in London in 1885 and ran for 672 performances (the second longest run of musical theatre history.) In that year alone, it was estimated that at least 150 companies across Europe and America were reproducing this piece of opera.
The Mikado is a comic tale of British-Japanese fusion which will be played out in a spectacular performance. The striking design places the action somewhere between then and now, and somewhere between Japan and anywhere else that has a government.
There will be plenty of comedic, modern day references to keep all audiences entertained.
