Surprising Sundays: Port Architecture Tours

Join us on Sunday 7 December for the next edition of Our Port’s Surprising Sundays!  The event features two free walking tours — an Art Deco Tour and a Historical Tour of Port Adelaide.

The tours are free of charge but bookings are essential, to book your place on either of the tours, please contact the Visitor Information Centre on 8405 6560.

Art Deco Tour

  • Arrive at 10.15 am for a 10.30 am start
  • Departing from and returning to the car park adjacent to the National Railway Museum, 76 Lipson Street.

Discover the richness of Port Adelaide’s 20th century architecture, from Art Deco to Moderne, on a guided walking tour of inner Port Adelaide. Hear the stories of growth and prosperity between the wars and how Port Adelaide embraced the revolution in architectural style that swept the world after the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925.

This walking tour will be two hours in duration and at an easy walking pace. Please bring your camera, hat and water.

Historical Tour

  • 11 am start
  • Depart and return from Lighthouse Square.

Let a local be your guide! Join one of the Port Adelaide’s friendly and informative tour guides to take you on an hour’s guided walk of historic Port Adelaide. Fascinating stories of the Port’s colourful past are shared by the guides as they take you on a journey through South Australia’s first State Heritage Area with its wonderful concentration colonial buildings. Port Adelaide’s ornate old buildings, humble warehouses and bond stores, wharves and hotels tell the vivid tale of colonial maritime life.

The tour’s duration is approximately one hour and will be at an easy walking pace. Please bring your camera, hat and water.
