Visitor Information Centre façade to be restored

The facade of the historic Visitor Information Centre

The local community identified the need to preserve the built heritage of the Port as a priority. As a result, another building restoration project is now underway in the form of restoring the façade of the Visitor Information Centre on Black Diamond Square.

The external works will focus on masonry and paint repairs as well as other sundry restoration works. These are expected to be finished early November.

The Visitor Information Centre building was completed in 1860 and designed by a colonial architect, Edward A. Hamilton. It was originally used as the Police Station, Customs House and Courthouse building.
