Grants and Support Now Available For Port Adelaide Businesses

Two new programs to support businesses and start-ups in Port Adelaide’s CBD have now been established.

The 12-month Port Business Makers Grant Program and Business Support Program will give existing and emerging businesses the opportunity to apply for a share of more than $270,000. Under this program grants of up to $10,000 will be available for existing businesses and property owners, and new entrepreneurs to help cover the costs of small scale projects.

Eligible projects for the Port Business Makers Grant Program will include facade improvements such as painting works, establishing outdoor dining, bollards or building compliance work such as noise, safety and access projects. The grants will be based on a co-contribution model and will encourage further private investment in the Port.

The Business Support Program is designed to assist new businesses to become established and help existing businesses grow, with support and mentoring through the Adelaide Business Hub.

Both programs are modelled on the highly successful City Makers Grant Program in the Adelaide CBD, which has supported 63 local businesses and entrepreneurs to the value of $550,000.

Since 2012, the Port Adelaide Renewal Project has included various economic development initiatives and the Port Adelaide Business Makers Grant Program and Port Adelaide Business Support Program are the latest of these.

“It’s an era of incredible growth and regeneration for Port Adelaide with major developments transforming the waterfront, while new life is being breathed into historic buildings like the Port Admiral Hotel. We’re working hard to make sure the Port will be sustainable into the future and these programs will play a key role in achieving that” said the Labor Member for Port Adelaide Susan Close.

The first round of the Port Business Makers Grant Program is now open with further rounds to be offered in both 2018/19 and 2019/20. The Business Support Program will be limited to ten eligible businesses each financial year.
